From the fall of 2011 through the end of spring 2012, the James R. Macdonald Lab has been remodeling. Our various laser-atom studies have displaced some of our old particle accelerators, and have grown beyond the space we originally allotted for them.
Utilities were supplied to the accelerators and beamlines via trenches. Lasers and optical tables need stable floors to stand on. Accordingly, we had to weld covers over the old trenches and pave them over with concrete. Eventually the floors will be sealed with epoxy.
