From the fall of 2011 through the end of spring 2012, the James R. Macdonald Lab has been remodeling. Our various laser-atom studies have displaced some of our old particle accelerators, and have grown beyond the space we originally allotted for them.
The dust from construction is incompatible with our ongoing research. The workmen are not too keen on us accidentally lasing their workspace, either. To protect us from one another, temporary walls were erected around the area. They provide a sense of scale for the project, as well.
