From the fall of 2011 through the end of spring 2012, the James R. Macdonald Lab has been remodeling. Our various laser-atom studies have displaced some of our old particle accelerators, and have grown beyond the space we originally allotted for them.
By late January, the new power and the AC plumbing were mostly in place for the Prairie Ultrafast Laser System for Attosecond Research (PULSAR). The plumbing is done in glorious copper pipe; it seems a shame that it will ultimately be hidden from view.
