From the fall of 2011 through the end of spring 2012, the James R. Macdonald Lab has been remodeling. Our various laser-atom studies have displaced some of our old particle accelerators, and have grown beyond the space we originally allotted for them.
To preserve its cleanliness and vacuum, the magneto-optical trap (MOT) was moved intact, using cleverness, cranes, carts and good old-fashioned manpower. In the meantime, optical tables and other gear needed to be moved and temporarily stored.
