| The Roosevelts: Presidents & First Ladies
 |
|---|
 | | | Students of American history will recall that Eleanor Roosevelt was
a distant cousin of Franklin, and the niece of Theodore. It turns out that the
Needham line connects not merely to each of them, but also to both of
Teddy's wives. The link to the Delano line also brings a connection
to US Grant, while a link to Pilgrim John Howland connects us to
British Prime Minister Winston Churchill. | | | |
 | | | | Theodore Roosevelt |
|---|
 | Theodore Roosevelt was the 26th President of the United States, and one of
the youngest and most colorful figures ever the hold that office. Teddy was an
outdoorsman, political maverick, Rough Rider and godfather of the Panama Canal.
Theodore Roosevelt is my 6th cousin, twice removed. Our common ancestor was
the immigrant Davitt Pieterse Schuyler. | | | | Davitt Pieterse Schuyler | | Catharina Schuyler Catalina Abeel

 | | | | Alice Hathaway Lee Roosevelt |
|---|
 | Alice Hathaway Lee was Teddy's first wife. In what was no doubt the
greatest tragedy of Teddy's life, she and his mother,
Martha Bulloch Roosevelt, would die on the same day (14 Feb 1884).
Alice Hathaway Lee is my 6th cousin, 4 times removed. Our common
ancestor is John Smith of Plymouth and Dartmouth, MA. | | | | John Smith | | Hassadiah Smith Deborah Russell

 | | | | Edith Kermit Carow Roosevelt |
|---|
 | Edith Kermit Carow was Teddy's second wife, and First Lady. Our common
ancestor is Henry Howland, father of Pilgrim
John Howland and his two brothers,
who were also early immigrants. The Howlands married into the Smiths, interconnecting
the two wive's lines. Edith Kermit Carow is my 9th cousin, 3 times removed. | | | | Henry Howland | | Arthur Howland Deborah Howland

 | | | | Franklin Delano Roosevelt |
|---|
 | Franklin Delano Roosevelt was the 32nd President of the United States,
and the longest serving. Despite being a victim of polio, he shepherded the
country through the Great Depression and World War II. Franklin Delano Roosevelt
is my 7th cousin, 3 times removed. Our common ancestor is the Pilgrim
Richard Warren. | | | | Richard Warren | | Anna Warren Patience Little

 | | | | Eleanor Roosevelt |
|---|
 | Eleanor Roosevelt, First Lady, is nearly as famous as her President husband.
A distant cousin of Franklin and a niece of Theodore, Roosevelt is her maiden
name. Eleanor Roosevelt is my 7th cousin, once removed. Like Teddy, our
common ancestor is Davitt Pieterse Schuyler and the connections are nearly
identical. | | | | Davitt Pieterse Schuyler | | Catharina Schuyler Catalina Abeel
