| The Adams family needs no introduction to anyone schooled in American history, and such is the fame of the family that I have selected only the two most famous to mention here. John Adams was one of the single most influential patriots, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, and, of course, President. His son John Quincy followed in his footsteps. John Adams is the 4th cousin, 6 times removed of Vincent Needham, while John Quincy Adams is the 5th cousin, 5 times removed. Our common ancestor is William Savil, born 1563 in England. There is also a more roundabout relationship to the Adams by way of the Shattuck family. | |

| Students of American history will recall that Eleanor Roosevelt was a distant cousin of Franklin, and the niece of Theodore. It turns out that the Needham line connects not merely to each of them, but also to both of Teddy's wives.
