Joshua lived first in Marshfield. In 1711, when Pembroke was incorporated, he is mentioned as one of the heads of families. He was twice a Representative; was Captain of the Militia, firstJustice of the Peace in Pembroke 1711, and later its second town clerk. He lived first in Marshfield, later in Pembroke, and before 1725 moved to Kingston. His gravestone in Pembroke reads "dyed 26 May, 1750, in ye 80 yeare."

On 31 May 1699 when Joshua was 28, he married Mary Bacon, daughter of Samuel Bacon (25February 1651 - 18 February 1681) and Mary Jacob (30 March 1656 - 15 April 1737), in Hingham, Massachusetts. Mary Bacon was born on 7 February 1680 in Hingham, Massachusetts.
