p231: "HINCKLEY, HINKLY, Samuel, from Tenterden, co. Kent, came in the Hercules in March, 1634.
Settled at Scituate. Frm. 7 Feb. 1636-7. Rem. to Barnstable in 1638-9. Juror, town officer. His wife Sarah
came with him; was adm. chh. Aug. 30, 1635; they brought four children: Thomas, (who became governor
of Plymouth Colony,) Susanna, (m. Rev. John Smith,) Sarah, (m. Henry Cobb,) and Mary; other ch. b. here
were Elizabeth bapt. Sept. 6, 1635, (m. 15 July, 1657, Elisha Parker,) Samuel bapt. 24 July, 1642, John
bapt. 26 May, 1644. His wife d. Aug. 18, 1656; he m. Dec, 1657, Bridget Bodfish. He d. Oct. 31, 1662; will
dated 8 Oct. 1662, prob. 4 March, 1662-3, beq. to wife Bridget, sons Samuel, John and Thomas, daus.

the lists presented below by Messinger and Otis agree, but miss some of the infants who
died in England.

"Samuel Hinckley of Tenterden, county of Kent, England, came to New England in the ship
Hercules of Sandwich, which sailed about March, 1634 - with his wife Sarah and four children.
He first settled at Scituate, and by the early records it appears that his wife joined the church
there, Aug. 16, 1635. He removed with his family to Barnstable in 1639. His first wife, Sarah, died
Aug. 18, 1656, and he married, for his second wife, Bridget Bodfish, Dec. 15, 1657. He died at
Barnstable, Oct. 31, 1662."

p284: "Samuel Hinckley came into Scituate probably with Mr Lothrop, 1634. He was a freeman 1637.
His house was on Kent street, the second south of Greenfield lane. He also owned the marsh between
his house and the third cliff, He had also land near Rotten marsh, on the south-east, next to Mr Vassall's
"brook hall field." He removed to Barnstable, 1640. His son Samuel was here with him, and removed to
Barnstable : his children were Sarah born 1642, John 1644. His wife Sarah died 1656, and he married
Bridget Bodfish 1657."

Emigrated in 1635 aboard the "Hercules". The text lists the 12 children, only 7 surviving.
"Samuel Hinckley brought with him his wife Sarah and four children, and immediately
after his arrival in Boston wen to Scituate and built a house...Mrs. Sarah Hickley died
Aug. 18, 1656, and Samuel Hinckley married Dec. 15, 1657, for his second wife, Bridget
Bodfish, widow of Robert of Sandwich...Samuel Hinckley died Oct. 31, 1662."
