"John Hinckley, son of Samuel, resided at West Barnstable. He was a man of some note, often
employed in town affairs, and ensign of the militia companv, an office of honor in his day. He married
for his first wife July 1668, Bethia Lothrop. She was a member of the church, but does not appear to
have been an exUemplary sister. She died 10th July, 1697, and he married Nov. 24th, 1697, for his
second wife, Mary Goodspeed."
