"James Cudworth, like all of the young men of the Scituate settlement,
received a good family education, since the heads of these families were
substantial men, largely from Kent, England and were themselves similarly
endowed. James at an early age joined the militia, and in 1652 at the
age of 17 was a captain. In 1654-5 he married Mary Howland, daughter of
Henry, and niece of John (the pilgrim of the Mayflower). James left no
will and no division of property, but the Court appointed Mary his
Administratrix."
