"Pelatiah Smith was named in the aborted and undated distribution document in his father's
probate file. On 4 February 1754 Pelatiah was of Ashford when he sold to [his brother]
Samuel Smith the "farm on which I now dwell," mentioning a deed from his father Samuel.
Then on 18 May 1758 Hezekiah Gay of Needham sold to Samuel Smith all his right to land
that had been taken from Pelatiah by execution. Court records might provide further
information. Presumably Pelatiah left Ashford."
