"Early Cogans English and American"
McCracken, George E.
NEHGR v111 pp168-173 (Jul 1957)
"Henry Cogan, father and grandfather of emigrants from England to America, may have been
son to Henry Cogan who married in Chedzoy, l July 1565, Elizabeth Carye. His own baptism
has not been found. He married at the Church of St. Mary Magdalen, Taunton, co. Somerset,
30 Nov. 1590, Joane Boridge, of whose antecedents nothing is known. Henry Cogan was buried
from the same church 1 Dec. 1612... His will describes him as a clothier, of Taunton, and
is dated 27 Nov. 1612, probated 29 June 1613 (PCC 52 Capell: it has been searched for at
Taunton and not found - see The Register, 68:62). The will is curious: the sum of £10 is
left to each of the six daughters (Johane, Judith, Mary, Elizabeth, Anne, and Frances), to
be paid at their respective marriages, and if any marry without consent of their mother,
they are to lose their shares for five years. Of the sons, only John is mentioned..."

Mary & John Clearing House; Toledo, OH; 1992
"Henry Cogan, who married Joane Boridge, 30 Nov. 1590, St. Mary Magdalen church, Taunton,
Somerset, had three married children who came on the "Speedwell" in 1637: Judith Cogan (b.
1594) and her second husband, Giles Rickard, Frances Cogan (b. 1605) and her husband, John
Whitcomb and Henry Cogan (b. 1607) and his wife, Abigail Bishop. He had another daughter,
Mary Cogan (b. 1595), who by her husband, James Glass, had eleven children, and by 1636
all were dead except four, and they all came over with their uncle Henry Cogan, as his
servants: Amy Glass (age 18), James Glass (age 17), Roger Glass (age 13) and Henry Glass
(age 12)."
