in 1856. Kansas was admitted as a territory in 1854 and as a state in 1861.)

Founded the "Oskaloosa Independent" newspaper, Oskaloosa, KS, in July 1860.
Was a probate judge for Jefferson county, and a delegate to the Republican
convention of 1856 in Philidelphia.
