Theophilus came to New England in 1633, on the ship Griffin, in company with Governor Haynes and the eminent Puritan divines, Cotton and Hooker. For a time heresided on Hayne's farm with his friend (Afterwards the celebrated Governor Haynes) as his adviser and secretary. When his younger brother Matthew, followinghis example, came to New England, Theophilus, who appears never to have married, settled with him in Hingham, Massachusetts. He was blind for 25 years beforehis death, which occurred 24 March 1679. He was said to have lived to the ageof 100 years.
