[517] Lemuel Shattuck did not consider ancestors older than William [b. 1621]
as reliably demonstrated. He speculates on a William Shattuck, who may
have died on the ocean crossing and left a widow, Damaris. A Damaris
Shattuck is known to have settled in Salem and married Thomas Gardener,
but there seems no proof that her offspring are of this line. Similarly, this
Samuel Shattuck - Damaris Sibley marriage should be treated as speculative.
The extreme old age of this Samuel Shattuck is also highly suspicious.
