He was prominent there in civil affairs and during his life a large landholder. He died in 1716."

"Samuel Howland (Henry) was born about 1638... and died at Freetown before 18 April 1716
(inventory). He married Mary Sampson, definitely before 2 June 1681 (date of Samuel Nash's
will) and even before 1673, if this wife was the mother of all his children. Mary was born
between 1646 and 1655 and was living on 4 February 1714/15 when she was named in her
husband's will. She was a daughter of Abraham Sampson and his first wife, [----] (Nash)
Sampson."
