The following suggests that the unknown Hammond wife of James Matthews was a daughter of Lebeus
Hammond who predeceased him; leading to the grandchildren being named but not the daughter:
"Lebeus Hammond, of Elmira; 17 May, 1819. Wife, but not named. Daughters Hanna and Polly,
wife of John Sly. My grand children: Vincent, Sarah W., Mary, William H., Rebecca, and Lebeus
 H. Matthews and Vincent M. Sly. Executors: William Jenkins, Samuel Strong, and my son-in-law
John Sly. Wit: John J. Low, Samuel Strong, Martin Hammond. Probated 17 July, 1826."
