In the fall of 2006 I vacationed with my friends Ed Hirst and Alicia Allbaugh at their new home in the LA area. The last time I was in LA, the Griffith Observatory had just closed for renovations. By a stroke of luck, its grand reopening happened during this visit and we managed to get a reservation on Saturday afternoon.
