The Cemetery

Mount Olivet is the churchyard cemetery of the Saint Joseph of the Valley Catholic parish outside of Leavenworth, Kansas. A substantial index of the graves in Mount Olivet is available from Find-A-Grave.

The churchyard holds the graves of some of the pioneer residents of Leavenworth County, including those of my ancestors in the Herley and Kennedy families.

The Graves

The first-generation Herley family monument.

The first face shows Mary, Annie and John Joseph.

The second face commemorates Mary, wife of David.

The remaining face is for William.

Three views of the stone for Elizabeth Dunne Kennedy.

Elizabeth's stone is highly eroded...

...but her husband Lawrence Kennedy's stone seems to be missing.

The Heintzelman's are not directly related to me...

...but are part of the network of intermarriages...

...and Tilly was very close to my family.
