06 March 2002
Dear Colleague,
You are invited to submit one or more proposals for experiments utilizing the facilities
of the James R. Macdonald Laboratory (JRML). In order to facilitate
long-range planning of
experiments, we will be accepting proposals for the period beginning 21 May 2002 and extending
to 20 May 2003. You may submit proposals for the first half of the period
(21 May 2002 - 20 November 2002), last half of the period (21 November 2002 - 20 May 2003),
or the entire period.
Please use the JRML Proposal for Experiment
form to supply the following information:
- Title of the proposal.
- Brief description of experiment to be done.
- Facilities required to perform the experiment.
- Participants in the experiment (including name, address, telephone,
fax, and email of contact person(s)).
- Amount of facility time needed to perform the experiment.
- Preferred dates to perform the experiment.
- Any special requirements associated with the experiment.
Include with the Proposal for Experiment form a concise summary (<=3 pages) of the experiment
that includes:
- Scientific motivation of the experiment outlining the specific physics being investigated.
- Technical details (beam(s) to be run, measurement(s) to be made, data rates, estimated
backgrounds, sources of systematic errors, etc.).
- Equipment (existing equipment, equipment that must be constructed, standard NIM electronics,
specialized electronics, etc.)
If this is a continuation of a previous experiment, it is not necessary to repeat the original
proposal. Instead, please attach a brief summary of the previous proposal, a short progress report
(including presentations and/or publications and beam time used), and a description of exactly what
measurement(s) will be made in the continuation period.
The proposal form should be completed (one per proposal) and submitted to the
JRML PAC at the
indicated address. The proposals are due by 05 April 2002. The PAC will review the proposals
and their decisions on the proposals will be available by 07 May 2002. Each project will be
assigned a project number. If the proposal is approved, one may request beam time on the
facilities at JRML through the JRML web page
(http://www.phys.ksu.edu/area/jrm) beam time
request form. The project number box on the form must be
completed for the request to be considered.
The
schedule of assigned beam times may be viewed on the
JRML web page as well.
