There is considerable intermarriage of Howells, Halseys, Smiths,
Woodhulls, Whites and other Long Island families. Two Edward Howell
great-granddaughters found in this work, but removed from the main
lines of descent, include Martha Howell (wife of Richard Smith) and
Phebe Howell (wife of Nathaniel Smith). Both Smith husbands were
the sons of Richard Smith and Hannah Tooker. A great-grandson,
Hezekiah Howell, married Juliana Woodhull, daughter of Nathaniel.
