"John Howland; died at Freetown before 8 August 1687. He seems not to have married.
The statement in Howland's 'History' that he was bequeathed a house by his mother
is a misreading of her actual bequest of a horse. Samuel Howland, identified as his
brother, was appointed administrator of John's estate on 8 August 1687. The inventory
was taken on 18 August."
